According to the American Academy of Dermatology hair will regrow spontaneously in some forms of hair loss. See a trichologist if, over time, you have documented your hair loss (where on your head? Approximately how many hairs per day?) and any medical, drug or lifestyle changes you’ve experienced (become a vegetarian, say or started a new contraceptive pill.)
In the meantime, check out the following facts on normal hair growth:
About 90% of the hair is growing at any one time, and the growth phase lasts between 2 and 6 years.
10% of the hair is in a resting phase that lasts 2 to 3 months, and at the end of its resting state the hair is shed.
When a hair is shed, a new hair from the same follicle replaces it and the growing cycle starts once more.
Scalp hair grows about one-half inch per month. But as you age, that rate of hair growth slows.
Most hair shedding is due to the normal hair cycle; losing up to 100 hairs a day is normal.
