What Is Seborrhoeic Eczema? Do I Have It?

Posted by Gary, on October 8th, 2007, under TRICHOTALK by Gary Heron Trichologist

Answer: Seborrhoeic Eczema of the scalp is distinguished by redness and patches of scale on the scalp, usually near the ears and hairline as the oil glands become sensitive to the levels of male hormones or androgens in the system. Individuals have a genetically determined predisposition towards this condition and outbreaks can be triggered by stress at different ages in the sufferer. In your case, the eczema has been aggravated by contact dermatitis. This condition often leads to increased shedding of hairs in the telogen (resting) phase of the hair cycle and some reduction in hair density.
