Answer: Seborrhoeic Dermatitis of the scalp can be distinguished by redness and patches of scale on the scalp, usually near the ears and hairline as the oil glands become sensitive to the levels of male hormones or androgens in the system. The precise cause of seborrhoeic dermatitis is unknown, although a genetic factor is almost certainly implicated as it is with eczema. Outbreaks can be triggered by stress at different ages in the sufferer and can often lead to a secondary bacterial infection. Without treatment, this condition can also lead to diffuse hair loss as the inflammation of the scalp leads to production of superoxide, which causes hair shedding. Though your hair will regrow, it may not be as thick as it was before.
